“Gemmata offers you more than 40 years of experience in the industrial diamond trade”

After a few years of learning the ins and outs of the industrial diamond world, Jan Leemans founded Gemmata in 1982 in Antwerp, Belgium. The main office is located in the Antwerpsche Diamantkring since the very beginning.
The ‘Kring’ is the world’s leading rough diamond bourse (since 1929) and a founding member of the World Federation of Diamond bourses. It’s one of the 4 Antwerp diamond exchanges and the perfect home base for Gemmata.

From the very beginning the company specialized in natural industrial diamonds (used in industrial tools and machinery) and diamond powders, gradually embracing the shift to more and more synthetic diamond solutions in addition to the natural trade.

In the late nineties, Vincent Loos joined the company, and with the addition of his industrial diamond knowledge, Gemmata covered the whole spectrum of the industrial diamond world.

Even today, each diamond is checked and sorted individually to make optimal use of its natural characteristics and to maximize its value and useability for our customers.

Gemmata’s base of operations is its headquarter in Antwerp but throughout the years the company has built up a global network with partners and offices in all 4 corners of the world to help optimize sourcing in Russia, Africa and India. China in particular has always been a mayor market for the company.

Today, Gemmata sources its diamonds globally from Canada and Russia in the North, Africa in the South and India and Australia in the East.

Gemmata is a valued member of the Antwerp diamond community
with good relationships with HRD and AWDC and following Kimberley Process regulations.

The company was a Select Diamantaire from 1994 to 2022 for Rio Tinto Diamonds , one the world’s leading diamond mining companies. Gemmata will maintain its strong relations with RTD for years to come. Since March 2010, Gemmata has been following rules and regulations of the Responsible Jewelry Council.

More recently Stefan Leemans, Jan’s son, joined the company to prepare Gemmata for the future world of challenges and opportunities of superabrasives.
